Innovation Through Collaboration

Public funding programmes play an important role in supporting innovation, research and the development of new technologies. At Last Mile Semiconductor, we are proud to participate in collaborative projects supported by regional, national and international funding programmes and initiatives.

SEMECO-B4 | Mobile recording of microperfusion

Last Mile Semiconductor is proud to be a project partner of SEMECO, driving innovation in the field of medical technology.

Our project aims to design and implement a compact, minimised and energy-efficient measurement system, in the form of system and textile integration, for the diagnosis of impaired microcirculation (blood flow in organs and tissues) and early detection of signs of decompensation in cases of intravascular fluid imbalance, while complying with medical safety standards and applicable data protection requirements.

Decoupled measurement of microcirculation is important for better understanding the relationship between macro- and microcirculation and thus deriving appropriate treatment measures for patients. Last Mile Semiconductor provides a necessary component for technical implementation with its sensor component in combination with the corresponding IP for the realisation of the ‘System on Chip’ (SoC) based on the new non-cellular 5G radio standard DECT NR+ and the open processor standard RISC-V.

Wearable Ultrasonic Micro Electro-Mechanical System

The project opens up new possibilities for wearable medical sensor systems.

The aim is to develop a platform that efficiently integrates miniaturised, MEMS-based ultrasonic transducers (CMUT/PMUT), energy-efficient data processing and secure medical data transmission into wearables.

This enables vital signs such as muscle activity or blood pressure to be monitored continuously and accurately – for example, via smart plasters or wristbands.

Ultrasound offers new possibilities compared with existing sensors, particularly due to its high penetration depth and the resulting ability to analyse deeper tissue layers. In addition, research is being conducted into approaches to energy-efficient data processing, the secure transmission of medical information, and the use of ultrasound for communication and power supply. The platform relies on local, energy-efficient data processing and secure interfaces, such as the NR+, to reliably transmit and analyse medical data.
