Wireless IoT Standards: State of the Union | TTC 2026

Seven wireless alliances on one stage: Z-Wave, Matter, Bluetooth, LoRaWAN, DECT NR+, Thread and Wi-Fi on what changed, what’s next, and why it is coexistence, not a standards war.

Avi Rosenthal (Z-Wave Alliance), Jon Harros (Connectivity Standards Alliance), Damon Barnes (Bluetooth SIG), Alper Yegin (LoRa Alliance), Roel Ottink (DECT Forum), Henk Veldhuis (Thread Group), Luis del Valle Alemán (Wi-Fi Alliance); moderated by Wienke Giezeman (The Things Industries)
Panel · The Things Theater, The Things Conference 2026, Amsterdam, 22 September 2026

Wienke Giezeman of The Things Industries moderates representatives of the Z-Wave Alliance, Connectivity Standards Alliance, Bluetooth SIG, LoRa Alliance, DECT Forum, Thread Group and Wi-Fi Alliance. Everyone is moving around the stack: Z-Wave and Thread add long-range sub-gigahertz variants, Bluetooth heads for 5 and 6 GHz, 7.5 Mbps and IPv6, and LoRaWAN, now at 150 million devices growing 25% a year, adds industrial application layers and gateway certification. The panel stresses coexistence, from Bluetooth–Wi-Fi collaboration to a joint coalition defending the 900 MHz band at the FCC.
